There are a lot of DJs in the industry all providing different services as well as different levels of service. As with any industry, there may be a few cowboys out there as well. Whilst we are not saying that anyone who is cheaper is a cowboy, we suggest you look very carefully at what they offer, past experience, feedback from previous events etc. We pride ourselves on our reliability. Once you are booked, you are guaranteed that we will be there. We are aware of DJs who take a booking and then bump it for a better priced gig. We will never do this as we appreciate how important your event is and we rely on our reputation being untarnished. We also carry £10 million Public Liability Insurance, a ProDub License and all our equipment is PAT Tested annually. These are the minimum requirements for some venues, and some DJs will skimp on this, only find out on the night that they are unable to perform due to not meeting the minimum criteria for the venue. If you are totally happy with everything the other company has to provide, then all we can suggest is that you go with them. Although we may discount prices to a certain extent, we will not drop our prices to match other DJs significantly just to get the work.
We can provide discos with as shorter notice period of up to two hours. In extreme circumstances, we may be able to provide a disco at absolute last minute. There is unfortunately, a £50.00 surcharge on top of our normal fees to cover either situation. Please contact us if you need to take advantage of this service.
PAT Testing is something that is undertaken on our equipment by a competent tester, which ensures that all electrical equipment meets the minimum requirements for safety. Whetehr required by a venuw or not, all DJs should have this undertaken to ensure that no guests suffer injury whilst at an event.
Public Liability Insurance covers us damage caused to third parties property or for accidental injury as a result of carrying out our business as a mobile entertainment service. Again, this is a minimum requirement for many venues. Our PLI is provide by the National Association Of Disc Jockeys
ProDub is a license issues by the MCPS. It allows us to shift media from various different sources such as CD, MP3, etc to the device used for our main playout system. It also allows us to use this media at the events which we perform at. Although it is still rare for this to be a minimum requirement at venues, it is becoming more the norm nowadays. It is actually a legal requirement now, but more importantly, it ensures that artists receive their due revenues for all the work put into producing their music.
It is very much dependent on the venue. If it is difficult access and a long walk from where we can park our vehicle to where the event is being held, then it can take up to two hours to set up and tear down. For most normal access venues, with a typical 50 yard walk from the vehicle to the room, then typically, it will take about an hour to an hour and a half. It is usually much quicker to take the rig down than it is to set up.
There are lots of things that you can do, but most are common sense. The main thing is to let the DJ do his job. We often find that organisers and guests try to place too much importance on sorting out playlists etc. The main skill of the DJ is reading a dancefloor and playing music that is going to work with that particular crowd. Also, try and make ure that your guests give the poor old DJ a bit of respect. We have noticed that in some circumstances, the DJ is treated with little or no respect whatsoever. Remember your DJ is a person, not just a jukebox. He is much more likely to get your event going well when he is happy and upbeat during the event that he is performing at. If you are the organiser, try and stay at best on the dance floor, or at mimimum in the same room as much as you can.As you are the centre of attention, you will find that people will follow you around during the night. If say, the bar is in a different room, and you spend most of the night in there, then most of your guests will too.
Yes, but only if they are sent to us and cleared before the event. We will need at lead 10 working days clearing time prior to the event, so make sure you post it in good time.
We accept many forms of payment, including cash on the night, PayPal, cheques in advance etc. In most cases we do not demand a deposit, but you are more than welcome to pay one if you wish.
You can also pay in installments, so long as the balance is fully paid and cleared before the event. We need cheques sent to us at least 10 working days prior to the event and PayPal payments to be made at least 5 days before.
Easy... "If you play this music, everyone will get up and dance"... usually when the dance floor is already full. What actually happens, is we play that sort of music, everyone else sits back down, the person that said it gets up to dance, realises that there is no-one else on the floor and sits back down themselves.. ultimately resulting in an empty dance floor and the DJ feeling like a complete wally!!! I can also add to that people asking for R&B, Hip-Hop, Hardcore dance music during the part of the night where we ar eplaying some classic 60s and 70's tracks. We tend to group our music into eras and genres and link through to the next era / genre using specially selected tracks. Playing something completely out of place will just result in an empty dancefloor and killing the whole flow of the music. Oh and the final nugget, "If I give you a fiver will you play for an extra hour"... The answer is quite simply no. We have a fixed price for over time rates, and you will usually find that most venues have a set finish time and a music license that is only valid until that time. Playing over tha time, only results in the venue getting really frustrated and the DJ probably not being asked back again. If however, there are no restrictions to playing on, and the DJ thinks that it is worth carrying on, then we will be ahppy to play on for the appropriate fee.
We carry full backup equipment in our van in case of any eventuality. All our equipment is very well looked after and regularly maintained, so the chances of this happening are remote.
In most cases, we have a backup DJ that can take over. In the worst case, that this is not possible, we will try to source youa n alternative company and issue a full refund. We cannot however be held responsible for any additional charges incurred through booking another company.
Yes, absolutely. We have a set of colour was lighting which does not flash. It just washes the room with either static or steadily changing colours.
We will play the music at a level appropriate to the event and the crowd. For example at a disco for younger people, we will tend to play the music at a higher level and with more bass, whilst at a 60's night, we will tend to play it a little quieter. We have no objections to anyone coming up to us on the night and asking us to turn the music up or down, so pelase feel free to do so.
Yes, you can. We do however STRONGLY recommend that you do not set restrictions on the music just to suit your personal tastes. Although cheesy music is not classed as "Cool", we often find that played over a period of 15 - 20 minutes on the night or in small sections, it can work really well and loosen a lot of inhibitions. Cheesy music can be the stalpe of a good disco. Remember, you are having a party, not a music review night.
Yes, absolutely. You can use the online planning form to pre-book any requests. Try not to pre-book too many as it can make it difficult for the DJ to effectively maintain the flow of music throughout the night. Also make sure you choose a good range of music that will suit the wide majority of the guests, and most importantly choose songs that are upbeat and people will dance too. Although you may have your own taste in music for listening to, it doesnt always work at a disco and can clear a dance floor.
Yes, absolutely. Once you book, we can enable guest requests. You will then get a password which you can give out to your guests to log on to their own area of the website. Ask them to try and not to pre-book too many as it can make it difficult for the DJ to effectively maintain the flow of music throughout the night. Also make sure they choose a good range of music that will suit the wide majority of the guests, and most importantly choose songs that are upbeat and people will dance too. Although they may have their own taste in music for listening to, it doesnt always work at a disco and can clear a dance floor. You as the organiser also have full control over their list and can amend appropriately if required.
Yes we can. Just give us at least two weeks notice to organise this for you. We cannot however guarantee that we will be able to get it for you.
Yes, you can either bring your music on CD, SD card or a USB stick. Files need to be in MP3 format if on the latter and preferably ripped at 320Mbps.
We play a wide range of music appropriate to the event. We have everything from the 50's to current chart music.
Yes we can, although we tend to commit to no more than 5 charity events per year. The discount is decided using our discretion, and can be anything from free to a 25% discount.
The online planning system is access through our website. It allows event organisers to plan their event, pre-book requests, message us, change account details etc.
Absolutely. We will let your guests know that they can make requests through the night. Try yourself and encourage them to do so as well. We often find that no-one come up and makes request until half an hour before the end, and then complain when the DJ tells them that there wont be enough time to play it.
No, unfortunately we dont do karaoke, although we would be happy to recommend other companies who can provide this service.
We will address appropriately, or as requested. This can be from a full dress suit, business suit, waistcoat and bow tie, smart casual or totally casual. It is really up to you if you would like us to be attired in a specific way.
We tend to remian within a 25 mile radius of the Ryedale area, but will travel further affield if specifically requested. THere willbe a 40p mer mile fee to cover the distance theri and back though.
Yes, you can look at our feedback page on the website for this information. You can also leave your own feedback there too.
Yes, if you contact us, we will provide you with contact details from clients that we have worked for before.
Yes, we do have a smoke machine. However, most venues, particularly hotels, will not allow their use. This is both froma health and safety point of view as well as the fact that it can set off the smoke alarms. If your venue does allow smoke, then also please make sure that all your guests are happy for us to use it. It can affect breathing for people with asthma and similar breathing issues.
Yes, we have a smoke machine, bubble machine and snow machine. The bubble machine is great for first dances and kids parties. The snow machine is a really nice effect at the end of the night. Both ar ebubble based machines, so you need to make sure that the floor is not polished or slippery. We cannot accept any responsibility for injuries incurred when the use of these machines has been granted by the venue or the client.
This is particularly pertinent at weddings. We try to play a wide range of music to suit the age range and music tastes of all the guests. Normally, what tends to work well is that we play a mix at the start of the night, and then stick to eras after that. The mix gives us a good idea of what is going to work well. We then tend to keep things a little older at the start of palyiong through the eras, as those of an older age tend to leave a bit earlier. The younger ones can then really enjoy their own music later on.
Yes, most definitely. Please make sure that you have enough responsible adults their to look after the children. Albeit we are their to entertain them, we are not their to baby sit. We also ask that if you intend to have any party games (which is a really good idea for the under 10's), please make sure you have some prizes to give away. It is also a nice idea to have a bag of sweets, so that when any child is deemed out of a game, they can come and get a sweet to pacify them a bit. We can also provide glow sticks for your party if requested. We also strongly recommend allowing half an hour during the disco where they can sit down, get a drink and have something to eat. Children can get tired very quickly, and giving them a rest re-energises them.
Yes, we have a choice of high quality wired microphones, or wireless if required. Please note however that we will not give microphones out to people to ket them take them on to the dance floor and sing along to their favourite track. Also we ask politely... DO NOT BANG YOUR HAND ON THE MICROPHONE to see if it is working. This not only destroys our microphone, but alos can detroy our PA system.
Yes, very much so. We have worked with bands at many events in the past and it works realy well. We do ask tough, that you try and get a playlist from them to send to us so that we do not clash with any of the music that we play. We would also be happy to recommend bands that we have worked with in the past.
No, unless we are selling tickets to the event for public performance. For normal private parties, whcih covers 99% of the parties that we do, a PRS license is not required.
Yes, unfortunately it will as we will need to employ the services of a roadie. We will sometimes waive nthis additional fee, if we get a signed agreement to say that you can provide addiitonal assistance for us to carry the equipment at the start AND end of the night. This help will alos need to sign a disclaimer that removes any responsibility fromus should the asistants suffer any form of injury as a result of carrying the equipment. If the help promised is not forthcoming at either the start or end of the night, then a surcharge will be payable prior to any entertainment taking place, which would cover the cost normally required to pay a roadie.
We would suggest you think very carefully about your finish time. A lot of people tend to think that because the venue is open until the early hours of the morning, that they should finish at the same time. At weddings in particular, you will find that a lot of people tend to leave around midnight, and before if they are a little older or have small children. It is much better to finish the night on a high with a full room, rather than with four or five people kicking around the room
